QR Codes are a great way to share digital data using phone cameras, but they enable a lot of tracking that we don't yet fully understand! This research project is devoted to finding out how, how much, and how creepily people are being tracked by the computers behind the QR codes that they scan.
We've created an iOS shortcut and Android method that you can use to snap a pic of a qr code in a matter of seconds! You can also keep track of all the QR codes you've scanned, and get a report on whether we determined if it tries to track people who scan it.
iOS Devices 📱 Android Devices 📱Simply install the iOS shortcut. Check out the video explanation of how the shortcut works and why it needs the permissions it does.
Install 📥 (iOS) View video 📹Tap the set up button to follow instructions on the QR code reporting-process for Android devices. Watch the video provided for additional help.
Scan 📥 (Android) View video 📹By default, scans that you upload are not linked to you in any way. However, as we improve our privacy analysis, we are building a UI that allows you to link your scan history with your identity and view your scan history and privacy report securely in a web browser.
